August 2012 - Saffron Building Society, the largest building society serving the East of England, has announced a strong growth in half year mortgage results for 2012 , with a 97% increase in gross lending for the six months to June 2012, compared to the previous year.

Mortgage loans valued £144 million during the year and saffron also opened 30,000 new savings accounts during the year. Mortgages 3 months or more in arrears were 0.39%.

Management expenses as a percentage of mean total assets rose to 0.85% from 0.84% the previous year.
