February 2012 – Yorkshire Building Society was voted the Best High Street Savings Provider at this year’s Moneyfacts Consumer Awards. The award follows the results of a consumer survey completed by over 60,000 people. The Society was also Highly Commended in the First Time Mortgage Buyers Choice category.

The % of mortgage loans 3 months or more in arrears was 1.84% (1.84%). Retail savings balances increased by 55% to £21.4 billion. Over the year the group opened 270,000 new savings accounts and attracted over 900 best buy mentions. The merger with the Chelsea building society that was completed in June 2010 has strengthened the groups position. Management expenses as a percentage of mean total assets adjusted for the effects of the merger were 0.51%.
